Bryndi & Kai | Hawthorne House Kansas City Summer Wedding
Summer weddings in the Midwest are a unique adventure, full of unexpected twists and turns. As a Kansas City wedding photographer, I’ve learned that no two weddings are ever the same, especially when it comes to the whims of Midwest weather. This season, we’ve seen everything from balmy, picture-perfect days to record-breaking heat and humidity. One particular wedding stands out in my memory, where the extreme weather prompted us to pivot and embrace the beauty of indoor photography.
The forecast promised a sweltering high with oppressive humidity, pushing us to rethink our original plan. We had envisioned capturing the couple’s special moments outdoors on the beautiful property of Hawthorne House in Parkville MO. However, the safety and comfort of the bride, groom, and their guests were our top priority. So, we quickly shifted gears and decided to create magic indoors.
Indoor photography offers a different kind of charm and intimacy. The soft, diffused light filtering through windows, the architectural details of the venue, and the cozy, personal atmosphere all contribute to stunning, heartfelt images.
As wedding photographers, having a plan is crucial. It helps us stay organized and ensures we capture all the essential moments. However, the unpredictable nature of weddings means that we must also be incredibly flexible. Whether it’s a sudden downpour, unexpected delays, or in this case, extreme weather conditions, our ability to adapt quickly is what ensures that we still deliver beautiful, timeless images.
One of the most touching details from this wedding was Bryndi's thoughtful gesture of creating pocket squares out of her wedding dress fabric for every important man in her life. It was a heartfelt way to share a piece of her special day with those who mean the most to her.
As if the day wasn't already filled with enough magic, Bryndi surprised everyone by changing into a second wedding dress after the ceremony. Her first gown was a classic and elegant piece, perfect for the vows and formal portraits. For the reception, she chose a more relaxed yet equally stunning dress that allowed her to dance the night away comfortably.
Tips for Brides and Grooms
For couples planning their summer weddings in the Midwest, my advice is to embrace the unpredictability. Here are a few tips to ensure your day is as stress-free as possible:
Have a Backup Plan: Discuss alternative locations with your photographer in case of inclement weather. Indoor venues, covered outdoor areas, or even beautifully decorated tents can provide excellent alternatives.
Stay Hydrated and Cool: On hot days, ensure you and your guests have plenty of water and access to shaded or air-conditioned areas. Comfort is key to enjoying your special day.
Trust Your Photographer: We’re experienced in handling all sorts of situations. Trust us to find the best locations, lighting, and angles, even if plans change at the last minute.
Embrace the Moment: Some of the most memorable photos come from unexpected moments. Whether it’s an impromptu dance in the rain or a quiet moment shared in a hidden corner, these instances often make for the most cherished memories.
Every wedding tells a unique story, and it’s these stories that make my job as a Kansas City wedding photographer so rewarding. The unpredictability of Midwest summers adds an element of excitement and challenge that I’ve come to love. It pushes me to be creative, to think on my feet, and to find beauty in every situation.
So, whether it’s a sun-drenched garden ceremony or an intimate indoor celebration, I’m here to capture the magic of your special day. Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about the perfect weather – it’s about the love, the laughter, and the moments that make your wedding uniquely yours.
